Da Vinci 2.0 Review: Free AliDropship WooCommerce Theme

The short version
Do not build a new store on Da Vinci 2.0. The theme is still free and still downloadable, but its last release, version 1.4.8, is dated 16 May 2024 — 841 days before we checked — and the newest WooCommerce its changelog has ever named is 8.1.0, while WooCommerce itself is now on 11.0.1. Use it only to mock up a shop you will throw away. If you are actually selling, pick a maintained WooCommerce theme instead, and budget the $89 AliDropship Woo plugin either way, because the theme does not import a single AliExpress product without it.
Theme version and changelog from alidropship.com, plugin price from alidropship.com, WooCommerce version from wordpress.org, all read 4 September 2026.
Da Vinci 2.0 for WooCommerce is a free storefront theme published by AliDropship, the company behind the AliDropship Woo plugin. It was built for one job: to make an AliExpress dropshipping store look like a real shop rather than a spreadsheet with pictures. When this review first ran, that was a genuinely good deal. The question in 2026 is not whether the design still holds up — it mostly does — but whether a theme that has not shipped a line of code in more than two years belongs under a store that takes card payments.

Version, release date and changelog read from the AliDropship theme page on 4 September 2026. WooCommerce version read from wordpress.org the same day. The 841-day figure is our arithmetic, shown below.
The figure nobody else publishes: three major WooCommerce releases of silence
Every other review of this theme repeats the vendor’s “free theme updates and new features” line. Nobody checks it against the changelog. We did, and the arithmetic is the single most useful thing on this page.
How it is derived. The AliDropship theme page lists version 1.4.8 dated 16 May 2024. From 16 May 2024 to 4 September 2026 is 841 days. In that window the theme shipped nothing. Read the changelog backwards and it thins out fast: 1.4.7 on 7 May 2024 (“Woocommerce templates update”), 1.4.6 on 25 January 2024 (“Templates update”), 1.4.5 on 19 September 2023 (“Compatibility with woo 8.1.0”), 1.4.4 on 6 September 2023. Four releases in the eight months to May 2024, then nothing for 841 days.
Why it matters more than the date alone. WooCommerce 8.1.0 shipped in September 2023. WooCommerce is on 11.0.1 as of 10 August 2026. That is three major version lines — 9.x, 10.x and 11.x — released since the last version this theme’s changelog claims compatibility with. WooCommerce major releases are where template overrides break, and a storefront theme works by overriding WooCommerce templates. The theme is not necessarily broken today; a theme can survive major releases untouched. But nobody has said in writing that it works, and the vendor’s own compatibility statement stopped three version lines ago.
A second number from the same page, for context on what “free” buys. AliDropship’s own theme catalogue on 4 September 2026 sells Sellebrity at $199, and Frida, El Greco, El Greco Woo, Andy Warhol and Andy Warhol Woo at $67 each, alongside free themes including Da Vinci 2.0, Da Vinci 2.0 Woo, Rubens, Dali and Raphael. The free tier is real. But the AliDropship Woo plugin (affiliate link) that makes any of them import products is $89 as a one-time payment, and it is not bundled with the theme. A free theme on a $89 plugin is a $89 store, not a $0 one.
What the theme actually gives you
Judged on design alone, Da Vinci 2.0 is better than its price. It installs like any other WordPress theme and adds a “Davinci Woo” panel to the admin sidebar, where the settings live in three groups: General, WooCommerce and Services.
General lists the plugins the theme wants installed and offers one-click child theme creation, which is the right default for a store you intend to customise. WooCommerce controls the side cart and dedicated cart page, how many products appear in the slider menu, and the single product page: gallery behaviour, image style, rating display, cart button, plus free-text Custom Shipping and Payment Description fields that appear under every product. Those two fields are the most useful thing in the panel, because shipping time is the objection every dropshipping store has to answer. Services handles the 404 page, with a background image, custom text and buttons pointing back into the catalogue.
The storefront itself is clean and conversion-shaped rather than decorative: a lot of whitespace, products dominant, and a deliberate path to checkout. The product page front-loads the discount label, then puts a clickable star rating and review link beside the product name so social proof lands before the price objection, then a buyer protection banner, then a cross-sell row of up to five related products. The cart and checkout screens are tidied versions of WooCommerce defaults, with an optional multi-step checkout. Login and registration are split cleanly between new and returning customers. There is also a blog section, live search, a side cart and social integration.
None of this is unique in 2026 — most maintained WooCommerce themes do the same things — but it was well judged, and it still renders well on the live theme demo (affiliate link).
Where it loses
1. The 841-day update gap is the whole problem
Everything else on this list is a preference. This one is a risk. An unmaintained theme means no PHP 8.x fixes as hosts move on, no WooCommerce template refreshes, and no security patch if one is ever needed. For a store handling payments, that is the wrong shape of risk to take on to save $67.
2. “Free” is a $89 store
The theme cannot import an AliExpress product by itself. The AliDropship Woo plugin at $89 one-time does the importing, order processing and metrics. Budget it from the start. To be fair to the vendor, $89 once with no renewal compares well against monthly dropshipping tools — it is the theme, not the plugin pricing, that is the problem here.
3. It locks you into one vendor’s workflow
The theme is designed around AliDropship’s plugin. If you later move to a different supplier or importer, the theme’s product-page furniture — buyer protection banner, shipping description fields — is doing less for you, and you are still on an unmaintained theme.
4. No public review base
It is not on WordPress.org, so there is no version history, no active-install count, no star rating and no support forum you can read before installing. Everything you know about it comes from the vendor’s own page. That is a real information gap compared with any theme in the directory.
5. The design language is dated in places
The layouts predate the block editor’s rise and the theme is a Customizer-era classic theme, not a block theme. It works, but you will not be editing templates in the site editor.
What to use instead
If you want the AliDropship workflow, one of the vendor’s maintained paid themes at $67 is the smaller risk, and you are paying the $89 for the plugin regardless. If you simply want a good WooCommerce store, Porto (affiliate link, $59) was updated to version 7.9.3 on 2 September 2026 and holds a 4.92 rating from about 4,200 ratings across 102,813 sales. A free and maintained route is Astra (affiliate link; the theme is free on WordPress.org), on version 4.13.10 as of 19 August 2026 with 1+ million active installs. Our AliExpress dropshipping theme comparison covers the field, and the WooCommerce setup guide covers the shipping and tax settings dropshipping stores always change.
If you still want to look at it yourself, the theme download sits on the vendor’s Da Vinci 2.0 for WooCommerce page (affiliate link). Install it on a staging site, not a live one.
Affiliate note: the AliDropship, Porto and Astra links above are affiliate links. They did not change the verdict, which is that we would not build a new store on this theme.
Da Vinci 2.0 FAQ
Is Da Vinci 2.0 still free?
Yes. On 4 September 2026 the AliDropship theme catalogue still listed Da Vinci 2.0 and Da Vinci 2.0 Woo as free downloads, alongside paid themes at $67 and $199. The theme is free, but the AliDropship Woo plugin that imports AliExpress products is a separate $89 one-time purchase and is not bundled with it.
Is Da Vinci 2.0 still updated?
No. The newest version on the vendor’s page is 1.4.8, dated 16 May 2024, which is 841 days before we checked on 4 September 2026. The changelog before that shows 1.4.7 on 7 May 2024, 1.4.6 on 25 January 2024 and 1.4.5 on 19 September 2023. The vendor still advertises free updates, but none have shipped in that period.
Does Da Vinci 2.0 work with the current WooCommerce?
The vendor has not said so. The newest WooCommerce version named anywhere in the theme changelog is 8.1.0, in release 1.4.5 of 19 September 2023, while WooCommerce itself was on 11.0.1 released 10 August 2026 when we checked. That is three major version lines with no stated compatibility. Test on a staging site before trusting it with a live store.
Do I need the AliDropship plugin to use Da Vinci 2.0?
To run an AliExpress dropshipping store, yes. The theme provides the storefront design only. Importing products, processing orders and tracking metrics is the AliDropship Woo plugin’s job, and it costs $89 as a one-time payment with free updates and support. You can use the theme as a plain WooCommerce storefront without it, but then most of its purpose is gone.
Who is Da Vinci 2.0 actually made by?
AliDropship, a company that sells dropshipping plugins and themes. It is not made by AliExpress or by Alibaba, despite the name association. That matters for support: your only channel is AliDropship, and the theme is not listed on WordPress.org, so there is no public support forum, review score or active-install count to check first.

All read 4 September 2026. The 841-day gap and the “$89 real entry cost” are our own arithmetic from those figures.

Actually, in my point of view, Alidropshop Woo Plugin makes this theme easy to use for everyone. Also, other features makes this theme more user friendly. I was thinking of to use this theme from many days. After reading your review, I would like to give a try. Thanks for sharing such a nice post.
