Reign BuddyPress Theme: Features, Pricing & Alternatives

4/5 - (2 votes)

Reign is a currently maintained WordPress community theme, not a community engine by itself. Wbcom Designs lists Reign 8.0.7, released on 4 September 2026, with layouts for BuddyPress and BuddyBoss as well as its newer BuddyNext engine. Its current one-site theme plan is $99/year or $249 as a one-time lifetime licence. Budget separately for any premium LMS, marketplace or directory software your community actually needs.

Reign in 30 seconds
  • Core task: present community profiles, activity feeds, groups and related content with a consistent design.
  • Community engine: use BuddyPress, BuddyBoss Platform or the vendor’s BuddyNext; confirm which one a demo uses.
  • Theme-only price: $99/year for one site, $149/year for up to five, or $249/year for up to twenty; lifetime options are separate.
  • Bundle: starts at $179/year for one site and adds vendor-specific premium styling integrations.

The vendor also provides free versions of several in-house plugins; their paid Pro editions and third-party platforms are not automatically included. What Reign adds to BuddyPress and BuddyBoss

Profiles, groups, feeds and navigation

Reign supplies theme layouts and customization for community screens such as activity feeds, member directories, groups and profiles. The underlying community plugin handles member data and interactions. If you already use BuddyPress, test Reign with your actual enabled components, privacy settings and member roles before switching themes.

BuddyNext is an additional route—not a mandatory migration

Wbcom now promotes BuddyNext as a separate free community engine and sells a Reign configuration for it. Its BuddyPress product page also explicitly states support for BuddyPress and BuddyBoss. Do not switch engines based only on the vendor’s marketing speed claims: confirm data migration, group and message compatibility, add-ons and rollback on a staging copy. Keeping an existing BuddyPress installation may be appropriate when the feature set and integrations already work.

Forums and richer media

Forum discussions require a forum engine such as bbPress or the vendor’s Jetonomy; Reign alone is not the discussion database. Likewise, photo and video sharing require an appropriate media plugin. Wbcom lists free versions of Jetonomy, MediaVerse and several other in-house tools, with premium features sold separately. Check moderation controls, storage, uploads, privacy and notifications rather than assuming every feature visible in a demo is part of the theme.

Courses, stores and directories

Reign’s seller offers integrations for LearnDash, LifterLMS, Tutor LMS, Dokan, WCFM, GeoDirectory and WP Job Manager. It prices many specialized styling add-ons at $39/year apiece, or within a broader Reign Bundle. The underlying third-party software may carry its own licence and support cost. A community theme does not itself run a secure multivendor marketplace, award course certificates or manage paid job submissions.

Reign versus a simpler community theme

SituationWhat to compare
New community with basic profiles and groupsFree BuddyPress and a maintained compatible theme; add paid Reign styling only when needed
Existing BuddyPress community needing a new visual layerReign’s BuddyPress compatibility, template overrides and existing plugin support
BuddyBoss-based communityReign’s BuddyBoss styling versus the native BuddyBoss theme and each product’s real total costs
Community plus courses or marketplaceTheme + community engine + LMS/marketplace plugin + styling add-ons + payment costs

The seller describes its own BuddyX Pro as a simpler community option beginning at $79/year; compare feature entitlement directly before assuming it can replace all of Reign’s specialized integration styling. How to make a WordPress community worth joining

  1. Specify the member’s first job: finding answers, meeting peers, completing lessons or finding events.
  2. Show a realistic preview: let prospective members see some useful discussions and understand what remains private.
  3. Choose registration thoughtfully: avoid unnecessary form fields and test account confirmation and password reset.
  4. Set moderation before promotion: assign roles, reporting routes, spam controls and data-retention settings.
  5. Test notifications and mobile navigation: verify real emails, accessibility, member privacy and a complete sign-up journey.
  6. Measure meaningful participation: active members and answered questions matter more than a demo’s inflated member counter.

What to test before purchasing Reign

Use the seller’s actual community demo with a member account, not just its public homepage. Try a group, profile editing, forum thread, file upload and mobile navigation if those features matter to you. Review the dated changelog for the installed version; it records release 8.0.7 on 4 September 2026. Confirm the community engine and premium dependencies used in the particular demo, and inspect update entitlements for your chosen annual or lifetime licence.

Reign BuddyPress theme FAQs

Does Reign include BuddyPress?

The theme supports BuddyPress and other community engines, but the theme itself is the design layer. Install and configure the engine your site requires.

Does Reign also support BuddyBoss?

The developer explicitly lists BuddyBoss Platform compatibility. Test your particular BuddyBoss extensions and templates on staging before changing the live theme.

Is Reign a SaaS product?

No. It is a WordPress theme sold through annual and lifetime licences, with related plugins and integrations. You arrange and maintain the underlying WordPress hosting.

Do I need the Reign Bundle?

Not necessarily. The theme-only plan can suit a standard community. Compare the bundle when you need multiple supported styling integrations and check any separate licence for third-party software.

What does a one-site licence cost?

The vendor currently lists $99/year or $249 lifetime for the theme-only Personal licence; a one-site bundle starts at $179/year.
