Customizable Styles
Mission News includes plenty of options for customizing your site.
First, there are numerous layout options. The center column displaying your latest posts can be styled in one of four designs. The overall site layout also offers nine options to choose from. You can even select layouts for specific pages and post types. That means you could use a left sidebar for all of your posts, no sidebar for your pages, and both sidebars for one particular post. You’ll also get these same options for WooCommerce and bbPress pages if you install either plugin.
Mission News also includes display options in the Customizer for changing excerpt length, hiding elements on your site, and adding header icons for your social media profiles.
There’s also a Recent Posts Extended widget bundled with the theme. It’s similar to WordPress’s standard Recent Posts widget, but includes additional content and styling options.
Professional Typography
While Mission News features images prominently in each post, typography is essential to a sharp news-site design.
The high-contrast Abril Fatface font used for the site title is reminiscent of the blackletter fonts used by traditional newspapers, but with a modern and elegant twist. Likewise, the PT Sans and PT Serif fonts were designed with digital use in mind.
Mission News can be translated into many languages, and the Russian-designed PT Sans and PT Serif typefaces support a wide variety of character sets. This makes them suitable for websites serving readers in many languages.
